About this Episode

In 1990, President Bush laid out his vision for a New World Order to address the Persian Gulf Crisis suggesting that the country would be “free from the threat of terror, stronger in the pursuit of justice, and secure in the quest for peace”. He suggested that the era would be one when the nation could prosper in harmony. The poet and writer Sylvia Wynter suggests in her work “1492: New World View” that perhaps the original purpose of this country, although structured with domination and subjugation, could be re-imagined to embrace diverse people who could co-exist. More recently, the presenter of this workshop proposed that a 2020 New World Order might come with the use of imagination and futuristic ideas. Based on the hope for “civil harmony” and using lyrical words, writings and poetry, this workshop will engage participants in dialogue by wrestling with the following question: “Using prophetic wisdom and tradition, how might a sermonic moment propose a futuristic way of healing for this country and this world?” The Craft of Preaching was hosted in the Faith+Lead learning lab.
